temporary firearm import permit

OPTION 1 - STEPS WHEN DOING IT YOURSELF

                      

  1. Complete the temporary firearm import permit application (SAP520) in advance and bring it with you. It is important to note that the form must be completed in black ink and must remain unsigned until the document is finalized in front of the police official issuing the actual permit at the airport.
  2. If you do not wish to travel with your own firearms, you are welcome to make use of one of the rifles of the professional hunter accompanying you. They have a selection of appropriate calibers available. The cost will be 30usd per day and the replacement cost of ammunition. 
  3. Notarized copy of Applicants’ passport – page on which the photo and passport details are reflected. (Certified as a true copy)
  4. Copy of airline ticket
  5. Letter of invitation from your hunting outfitter, filled in with black ink and keep it with you at all times while traveling
  6. Completed SAP 520 Form (Not signed - must be signed in front of the official)
  7. Notarized copy of Proof of ownership of firearm, eg. legal licence, permit, certificate, confirming lawful possession of the firearm: (Certified as a true copy) – No sales receipts will be accepted (CBP Form 4457- Certificate of Registration for personal effects taken abroad)  (contact your nearest airport for this – Form must have a current expiry date at top right hand side and needs to be stamped in current year
  8. Letter of motivation (A letter written by yourself to motivate why you wish to import rifles)
